Duane's Select Vocal Recordings
Here are some songs that I've recorded with me on vocals
and guitar. I put them in an order which I happen to like but you are of
course free to listen to them in any order.
On some of them I also play bass and/or keyboards
and/or percussion. Songs that list me as the composer are
copyright of Duane Bowker.
The photo at the top is from the early 1970's
when my friends and I were performing at a coffee house called
"The Crypt" in Brockport, New York. If only I could find another
pair of pants like those!
-
"El Camino",
composed by Amos Lee (duration 3:30).
-
"LeAnn",
composed by Duane Bowker (duration 2:42).
Slow blues shuffle
with vocal that I wrote
ages ago. I did a new version of it in 2005.
-
"Like Rivers to the Sea",
composed by Duane Bowker (duration 3:19).
Kind of a quirky love song.
-
"Tales of Brave Ulysses",
composed by Eric Clapton and
Martin Sharp (duration 4:59).
The arrangement is a little bit funkier than the original
one performed by Cream. It's me on vocals,
bass and guitar. Drums are free-use audio samples.
-
"Guilty",
composed by Randy Newman (duration 2:17).
FYI, I don't do either whiskey or
cocaine. My big vices are chocolate, ice cream and, of course,
chocolate ice cream.
-
"Take a Chance",
composed by Duane Bowker (duration 1:56).
A short six-bar shuffle with me on vocals, bass and electric guitars. The drums are
from free-use audio samples.
-
"Hallelujah",
composed by Leonard Cohen (duration 4:18).
-
"I Don't Worry About a Thing",
composed by the late, great Mose Allison
(duration 2:14).
The song is reminiscent of the old
joke, "Which do you think is the bigger problem in America today, ignorance or
apathy?" Answer: "I don't know and I don't care!" It's me on vocals, acoustic
upright bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and acoustic percussion
(i.e., foot-slap-on-hardwood-floor).
-
"Denial",
composed by Duane Bowker (duration 2:40).
A song about falling for a friend.
-
"Sideways",
composed by Citizen Cope
(duration 2:14). A bluesy rendition
of the song by Citizen Cope.
-
"Whoop De Do",
composed by Mark Knopfler
(duration 2:55).
-
"Let Me In",
composed by Duane Bowker
(duration 2:10). I actually wrote and recorded
this one way back in 1992.
-
"This I Can't Do",
composed by Duane Bowker
(duration 3:09). Another quirky love song.
-
"John Barleycorn Must Die",
traditional old English
folk song as arranged by Steve Winwood and Traffic (duration 5:25).
-
"Heron and Fish (Pantheism)",
composed and performed by Duane Bowker (duration 5:16). A mostly vocal piece with
accompaniment on nylon-string acoustic guitar, electric guitar and electric bass. Final
mix recorded January 22,2015.
-
"Tough Old Goat",
composed and performed by Duane Bowker (duration 2:21). It's sort of a
backpacking love song, which could be a whole new genre. Final
mix recorded December 2,2014.
-
"Day Will Come",
composed by Duane Bowker
(duration 3:51). It's me on vocals, guitar and bass.
The drum track was (once again) constructed using a few
free-use audio samples.
-
"Move On Closer",
composed by Duane Bowker
(duration 2:33). A dance piece with me on vocals, guitar,
bass and keyboard. The sax track was played on a MIDI guitar
controller using a Korg synthesizer. Drums are taken from some
free-use audio samples.
